Bereavement Poems

~~~~
We grieve over many things
That we've lost over the years;
But when my thoughts turn to you
My eyes just flood with tears.
This is just to let you know
That you are never on your own;
When you get down and can't carry on
You just pick up that phone.
I'll bet here no matter what
Nor time of day or night;
As the grief can hurt so much
I want to be sure you're alright.
Dad you're gone now and in peace
It's so sad that Mom doesn't even know;
That you have now passed away;
We lost her really years ago.
She's been in her own little world
Dads been a tower of strength;
He loved her up to the end
He'd go to any lengths.
He said we must remember
That feelings can't go senile;
We must make her happy
Even if only for a while.
Those who mean the most to us
Are never really gone.
For in our thoughts and in our hearts
Their memory still lives on.
So may you find that passing time
Can somehow help to heal
Those memories will ease the loss
And sorrow that you feel.
For this is a journey that we must all take
And each must go alone;
It's all a part of the Master's plan
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely, and sick of heart
Go to the friends we know;
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds
Miss me - but let me go.
Bereavement Poems
A rose once grew where all could see
Sheltered beside a wall,
And as the days passed swiftly by
Its branches spread, straight and tall.
One day, a beam of light shone through
A crevice had opened wide-
The rose bent gently towards its warmth
Then passed to the other side.
Now you who deeply feel its loss
Be comforted...the rose still blooms there-
Its beauty even greater now
Nurtured by God's own loving care.
All the words in the world
Won't bring him back I know;
I only know you're in such pain
It was a sudden blow.
My thoughts are with you
If there's anything I can do;
No matter what on earth it is
I'll be there and do it for you.
~~~~

This journey you must take
Because (....) was your wife;
I understand the pain you're in
Feeling the end of your life.

The pain recedes into a dull ache
But life goes on as you know;
We're all here and want to help
On this path though only you can go.

We're the back up and support
We're here whenever you need;
Whatever help and love you want
We're here to do the deed.

Grief strikes you at all times of day
Stealthily by night;
Alone and quiet is at it's worst
Mind ticking over like dynamite.

It can be a word, it can be a tune,
The pain incredibly strong;
If anyone says that time is a healer
You tell them they're bloody well wrong.

Maybe you get used to feeling rough
And that's why it doesn't feel so bad;
All I know is that I can't remember a time
When I didn't feel very sad.

People show it in different ways
Some seem to show none at all;
But that's because within their mind
They've put up a big strong wall.

This wall though is unable to stay
It will come down one day;
That is when for the first time
They might have something to say.

Healing at different depths
Is taking place over time;
It's not the same for everyone
Yours will be different to mine.

Still hurting like you wouldn't believe
No words can really explain;
How you manage to stay alive
When really you're in so much pain.

When grief overwhelms me and I know not what to do
That is the most important time that I need you;
I know you find it hard as you don't understand
Your daddy was our world and he's died in a faraway land.

Poems on Grieving

~~~~
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss
I don't know what to do;
But all I know is when I'm bad
All I need is a big hug from you.
~~~~

Those we love remain with us
For love itself lives on,
And cherished memories never fade
Because a loved one's gone.

Those we love can never be
More than a thought apart,
Far as long as there is memory,
They'll live on in the heart.

~~~~
From dust we are and to dust we do return
That is a scientific fact;
But we're never ready to let go of life
Even when with pain we're wracked.
Letting go and going round
In this circle of life we're in;
We should be used to it by now
And take it on the chin.
~~~~

Sobbing and sobbing like a baby
I don't know what to do;
Ancient grief arising with no warning
My head and my heart in two

Sorrow and loss is overwhelming
Exhaustion and shallow breaths only;
My heart pounding and galloping along
I have never felt so lonely.
