Funeral Poems

This is suitable for any close relative Grandma, Dad, Mum, Mom

(Grandpa), Everyone has their time
But why did yours have to come so soon?
There are so many people in the world
So why did God have to pick you?
They say things like this make you stronger
But how can that be
I feel so weak inside
It all feels like a dream
I didn't get to see you
You passed away too soon
But I feel you watching over me
And someday I'll see you again

Whilst we are all here to celebrate your life
I'm going to miss you like hell;
The times we had together fishing
Well they were certainly swell.

Your jokes I always thought were corny
Would now be like music to my ears;
I can't read anymore of this
I can't see for the tears.

So off you go to that great river in the sky
Where you can sit around all day;
We will always love you and miss you
Keep safe and happy without us we pray!

I am standing on the tarmac
feeling cold and all alone,
I am waiting for the moment,
my hero's coming home.

He gave his life for freedom,
So we can all be free.
But as I stand here waiting
I wish you were here with me.

I will not feel your touch again
or watch you as you sleep.
Pick up your clothes, or hear you laugh
the sadness makes me weep.

But as they bring you from the plane,
draped with red, white and blue
I know you're a hero
and I'm so proud of you.

They say that gems are priceless
And I guess that is true
But our friendship has been priceless,
I can't imagine life without you.

I miss your wit and happy face
You were always so upbeat;
You never let anything get you down
Everything in life was such a treat.

Inspiration must have been your middle name
You were sent here for a reason;
That was to be my very best friend
If only for a season!

Funeral Poems

~~~~
You've been a source of inspiration
A love that we hold dear;
For you've encouraged everyone
To celebrate year on year.
Life is a gift and that's
Why it's called the present;
Many don't have it half as long
They've all came and went.
Every minute of every day
You vibrated every second;
That always rubbed off on us
One last time we reckoned.
~~~~

Missing you won't be easy
You filled our lives with joy;
We knew when you came by
Good times, Boy oh boy!!

You've lived and loved
Your cup was full up to the very top;
You've laughed and loved
For us all this will never stop.

God looked around his garden
And He found an empty place.
And then He looked down upon the earth,
And saw your tired face.
He put His arms around you,
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering,
He knew you were in pain,
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough,
And the hills were hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids,
And whispered"Peace be thine."
It broke our hearts to lose you
 But you didn't go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.

Prayers for those who Mourn that you can use as a template for your own funeral messages:

God of mercy,
as we mourn the death of (name)
and we thank you for his/her life,
we also remember times when it was hard for us to understand,
to forgive,
and to be forgiven.
Heal our memories of hurt and failure,
and bring us to forgiveness and lifein Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

Father, the death of (name) brings an emptiness into our lives
We are separated from him/herand feel broken and disturbed.
Give us confidence that he/she is safe
and his/her life complete with you,
and bring us together at the last
to the wholeness and fullness of your presence in heaven,
where your saints and angels enjoy you for ever and ever.
Amen

I know in my heart that you're not here
You've had to leave this world;
It wasn't fair to ask you to stay
As the illness within unfurled.

Love is eternal and I know that now
You will always be there;
The flame of love will never go out
And that you'll always care.

So this parting will not always be
You'll wait on the other side;
I'll complete my life task
Then into your arms I'll stride.

You never said I'm leaving
You never said goodbye;
You were gone before I knew it,
And only God knew why.

A million times I needed you,
A million times I cried;
If Love alone could have saved you,
You never would have died.

In Life I loved you dearly
In death I love you still;
In my heart you hold a place,
That no one could ever fill.

It broke my heart to lose you,
But you didn't go alone;
For part of me went with you,
The day God took you home.

The Life that I Have

The life that I have
Is all that I have
And the life that I have
Is yours

The love that I have
Of the life that I have
Is yours and yours and yours

A sleep that I shall have
A Rest I shall have
Yet death will be but a pause
For the peace of my years
In the long green grass
Will be yours and yours and yours

Turn Again to Life
If I should die and leave you here a while,
be not like others sore undone,
who keep long vigil by the silent dust.
For my sake turn again to life and smile,
nerving thy heart and trembling hand
to do something to comfort other hearts than thine.
Complete these dear unfinished tasks of mineand I perchance may therein comfort you.

by Mary Lee Hall, read at the funeral of Princess Diana by her eldest sister, Lady Sarah McCorquodale.

After Glow
I’d like the memory of me
to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an after glow
of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun
of happy memories
that I leave when life is done.

~~~~
If tears could build a stairway,
And memories a lane,
I’d walk right up to heaven
And bring you home again.
Funeral Blues-
Made popular by the movie, “Four Weddings and a Funeral”
Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.
Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He is Dead.
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.
He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.
The stars are not wanted now; put out every one,
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun,
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.
W.H. Auden
They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more;
neither shall the sunlight on them, nor any heat.
for the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne
shall feed them,and shall lead them unto living
fountains of water; and God shall wipe out every tear from their eyes.
Revelation; 7:16-17
An angel wrote in the Book of Life
My (Your) baby's date of birth;
Then whispered as she closed the book
"Too beautiful for Earth"
Spending Christmas with Jesus Christ This Year Poem
I see the countless Christmas trees
Around the world below,
With tiny lights like heaven's stars
Reflecting in the snow.
The sight is so spectacular
Please wipe away that tear
For I'm spending Christmas
With Jesus Christ this year.
I hear the many Christmas songs
That people hold so dear
But earthly music can't compare
With the Christmas choir up here.
I have no words to tell you
The joy their voices bring;
For it's beyond description
To hear the angels sing.
I know how much you miss me,
Trust God and have no fear
For I'm spending Christmas
With Jesus Christ this year.
I can't tell you of the splendor
Or the peace here in this place.
Can you imagine Christmas
With our Savior, face to face?
May God uplift your spirit
As I tell Him of your love
Then pray for one another
As you lift your eyes above.
So let your hearts be joyful
And let your spirits sing
For I'm spending Christmas in Heaven
And I'm walking with the king!
