“I think there is a higher office than president and I would call that patriot.”

Many a true word spoken
But none more than those above;
We honor and cherish all of them
And send to them our love.

There are those that are maimed
There are those with inner scars;
Experiences that go real deep
There's a high price for these wars.

We show honor and respect
For the service men and women;
Who've risked all they've got
More than the congressmen.

The prayer today for peace to reign
For evil to be destroyed;
For everyone to live in peace
And war and hatred to avoid!

Courage and bravery the watchwords of hell
They are all we seem to hear;
We watch the news with bated breath
Sometimes it's more than we can bear.

Amazing personas each and everyone
They guard our skies and shore;
We will be indebted all our lives
Eternity and forever more.

If only we could learn the lessons
Historians need to note;
Not just the facts of who did what
But the pain of which I've wrote.

The cost to human life is great
More than most of us can bear;
We're supposedly evolved right now
But into what I ask - I dare!

So when's this all going to end
Whatever way it's fair;
That's the only possible thing to do
How I ask - I dare!

I am standing on the tarmac
feeling cold and all alone,
I am waiting for the moment,
my hero's coming home.

He gave his life for freedom,
So we can all be free.
But as I stand here waiting
I wish you were here with me.

I will not feel your touch again
or watch you as you sleep.
Pick up your clothes, or hear you laugh
the sadness makes me weep.

But as they bring you from the plane,
draped with red, white and blue
I know you're a hero
and I'm so proud of you.

This gaping hole left in our lives
That no-one can ever breach;
Is where you once stood with us
And no-one else can reach.

We're proud of you and your service
To this country one and all;
When ever your name gets mentioned
We know that we stand tall.

Every day without fail though
We wish that you were here;
The news that came to us that night
Went through our hearts like spears.

The healing that is said takes place
I don't know when that will come;
Maybe years and years down the line
Because up to now it feels like none.

No one knows our heartaches;
Only those who have lost can tell
Of the grief that we bear in silence
For the one we loved so well.

He died doing what he loved
He'd made the choice to serve;
His country and his fellowman
The greatest honor he deserves.
